Welcome to the new week. The suggestions for learning this week will centre around nests and eggs. The birds are chirping and are looking for worms so I thought it would be nice to look at “What comes out of an egg?”

I will put suggestions for learning on Tapestry. These will include a reading book and some ideas for counting and writing along with some ideas to explore and of course a story for you.

Please enjoy these together and as I always say these are only suggestions,often the Pioneers have the greatest ideas to follow.

Who has ‘That Friday Feeling’?

Good afternoon Discoverers,

Thank you to those of you who have been tuning in with the blog this week. I love that so many of you are completing the activities that I am suggesting. I will now reveal the answers to the maths problems that I gave you yesterday:

  1. The answer to this question is £1.40.
  2. The number of footballs collected were 9.
  3. To be in the lead, Lillie needed 8896 points or more. 

When I next speak with you, it would be great to hear how you got on.

Many people around the world have been spreading cheer by putting a rainbow picture in their window. If you would like to join them, simply draw, paint or create a picture of a rainbow and place it in your window. You could even create a tally chart of how many people smile when they pass your house. To take this even further, you could create a bar graph to record how many people pass your house at different times in the day: this may be by car or on foot.

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all well.

I’m sure you have come up with quite a few ideas to answer the question ‘Why are worms different colours?’ From my observations and investigation yesterday, I think it’s because earthworms burrow in the ground, swallowing soil as they go. Some of the soil is then deposited in the gizzard/body making them appear different colours. However, there is one species of worm that is bright blue!

Having spoken to some families yesterday I would like to share some of their ideas for home learning:

Build a den with your brothers or sisters and share a story together or snack. This can be done indoors or outside.

Do some maths outdoors using chalk to write your number sentences. You can play catch whilst reciting your times tables or count in 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and 10’s as you climb the stairs.

Build a model house, castle or rocket using Lego or other building bricks.

It was lovely to hear that you are all working together!

 

I would also like to suggest the Book Trust web page, www.booktrust.org.uk. as they have free read along books.

Keep up with the challenges on Sumdog. I’ve set myself the challenge of going on for 20 minutes everyday so i can get better at ‘The junk pile’ and ‘Cannonball’. See if you can beat me!

Friday’s update.

Good morning Learners and families!

Today Chester Zoo are holding a Virtual Zoo Day (from 10am onwards). This might be fun to check out.

You could even draw a picture of your favourite animal and write a description of it in your purple book! hmm I think mine would be a giraffe! 

Its fantastic to see what you’re getting up to through Tapestry….so keep posting!

Look out for tonight’s Bedtime Story too!

Hello Leaders!

Another beautiful day so let’s enjoy the sunshine.  Have a look around your garden or local environment and see how many different minibeasts you can find.  You might also want to make a list of the amount of each different one that you find and then make a graph to show your results.  I am going to do some investigation myself and will show you what I find tomorrow.

With the beautiful weather, it made me think about being our in our forest, so I have also posted a link to teach yourself how to try a reef knot.  If you don’t have a piece of rope see if you can borrow a shoelace – just remember to return it afterwards!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aprfVTaxkk0

We’ll try another knot later in the week – that way we’ll be prepared for our first forest school session back in school – den building and hot chocolate.

Good morning all,

It has been lovely speaking with many of you over the past few days. It has been nice to hear that you are enjoying the sunshine, and have been keeping busy with fun and exciting activities that your families have planned for you. 

The maths book that I sent home is definitely challenging, so my advice would be to attempt the questions that you are confident with, perhaps in section A, and then have a break with some fun maths activities online. Here is a website that I would recommend:

I also wanted to put some maths questions on this blog for you, I will publish the answers on here tomorrow so that you can check to see if you got them correct:

  1. Lucy visited the shop to buy some milk, bread and eggs. The bread cost £1.20 and the eggs cost £2.40. She paid with a £10 note and received £5 change. How much did the milk cost?
  2. Drew decided to mow the grass, but first he had to collect all of the balls that his dog had left out. For every 2 tennis balls, there were 3 footballs. If there were 6 tennis balls, how many footballs were there? 
  3. Lillie wanted to play Sumdog, and was aiming to be the world’s best player. The top score was 15,292, her score was 6, 397. How many more points did she need to be in the lead? Don’t forget, to be in the lead she needs to score more than 15,292 altogether.

Good Morning Sunshine!!

Hello everyone, another lovely sunny day and a chance to spend some quality time in the garden or a safe outdoor space.

I’d like to start my post by posing a question I was asked on the school playground last week:

‘Why are worms different colours?’

Let’s investigate and carry out lots of observations of minibeasts in their habitats.

Perhaps you might create your own habitat for some woodlice.

If you want to spend some time indoors learning about minibeasts try the ‘Top Marks’ web page they have some super activities.

 

I also read a super post on shadow drawing which could be done indoors or out. Put a toy animal or other object in front of a white piece of paper and then draw round it on the paper.

These are only suggested activities so please pick and choose as you wish!

Hello Thursday!

Good morning everyone!

The sun is shining again, so make the most of the fresh air and enjoying your outside spaces!

I am really enjoying keeping in touch via Tapestry. Spread the word to other families in Learners Class that haven’t yet logged on but would love it too! Even just to watch the bedtime story slot!

Keep busy today and if you would like a task, how about learning some times tables today (only 2’s, 5’s or 10’s) Can you remember we used clapping to help us in class?

Keep me updated with what you are doing through Tapestry, even just to say hello!

I will continue to be ring families regularly. My number will come up as “withheld”. Looking forward to speaking to you all soon!

Sumdog Saga

Good afternoon Discoverers,

After spending some time outside this morning, in the beautiful sunshine, I thought I would take a break and play some games on Sumdog. I hope you’re all proud of me, as I only need seven more coins before I am moved from a ‘common rat’ to my next animal rank, yippee! 

I wondered if any of you would like to join me in some games? Tomorrow morning (Thursday 26th March) at 9:00am,  I am going to play cake monsters. Simply join the game yourself at this time and we can battle against each other 🙂
