All ’round the home and in the garden you may find repeated numbers that can be turned into number sentences.

The forks have 3 prongs : 3+3+3+3= 12
If your Pioneer is keen you could discuss 3×4=12
This is brand new.

The door has 4 panels
The fish have pairs of bones.

Happy Counting

My suggestion today is to revisit all the tricky words on the list and re-do the Spin the Wheel activity.
Gather together the family and maybe some toys and have a game of bingo.
If you do not want to print the bingo cards you could encourage your Pioneer to do the writing too!

The story
This week follows on directly from last week and will have elements of learning about the moon and the stars and light and materials.
It may be best to listen to the story again- Rain Before Rainbows,to spot where in the story we are.
This story features a little boy who really loved stars and wanted one of his own.
It is beautiful.

It’s been a while since we had a look at Numberblocks so here is a wonderful one for you to look at.

Next we are going to look at repeated addition.

This episode has lots of new vocabulary and will need a few watches and possibly setting out cubes if your Pioneer is up for it.

Exciting stuff

Like any stick, A Magic Maths Counting Stick is a wonderful thing.
It can take your counting skills to the next level.
To Infinity and beyond perhaps…
If you do nat have any tape you could paint your stick or blue tac and paper would work.
The key is to make equally sized divisions along the length of the stick.
After that, you can make it as beautiful as you like but keep the divisions visible because you will need these to help with that good old Maths Magic.
Each division can change what it represents. It can be 2,5,7 or 100.
Each day we will use the numberstick for different things.

First take a look at the Numberblocks Video and “How To Make A Counting Stick “
Look at each image of the counting stick and ask the talk about patterns,what comes next and what is missing.
All the helpful words and questions are on the bubble pictures.

It is so easy to use.
Spin the wheel,
Read the word.
If you have some counters and your word list you could cover the word over when you have read it.

Have fun
Make lots of wheels with lots of words and sounds.

Get a torch.
Look around your house.

Go on a hunt for things that let the light shine through-transparent.

Things that do not let the light shine through-opaque

And things that reflect the light back-reflective.

You can set them on the table in groups.
You could copy the words to add a labels to your groups

This lovely little clip has some complicated vocabulary but it is very clear.

The moon is lit up by the sun.

The sun is the light source.

Take a walk around your house and look for sources of light.

Take some photographs and have a play on Piccollage to make a poster of light sources or try out a video and chat.

Keep your sound mat handy and take a fresh look at Geraldine for “igh” and “oo”. if that would be fun.

Have a Tip Top Thursday Pioneers

Take a look at the words on the list.
Read them through together.
Find “sp” on your sound mat.
Read the words from the “tr” list and the “dr” list.
Write them all on postits and sort them into piles.

The weather this weekend has been fantastic. I love the wind and the rain.
Mr Wolf would certainly have needed an waterproof coat and a strong pair of boots to get through this storm.

Today I would like to share with you some music to listen to and enjoy.
I the classroom, your Pioneer has their own conducting stick or baton and we have discussed the role of the conductor. I would like to suggest finding a baton and conducting the orchestra.

You can talk about all of the instruments and make some of your own too.

The Animals are standing in a queue waiting to take their turn.

The Fox is getting bored and wants to know how many people there are in the queue.

His mum says,”There are 3 behind you and 4 in front of you. How many animals are there altogether?”

The Fox scratches his head and had a think. “I do believe I may have to draw a picture to work it out!”

Pioneers,can you draw a picture,use stuff and write the number sentences to help him.

Could you make up another one for your grown ups to do.

“tr” can sound like “chr” so it is a tricky one.
Have a go at reading these “tr” words and the sentence.
If you feel particularly confident you could have a go at writing these for yourself.
Spelling is more difficult than reading.
Keep your sound mat next to you.
Have a look at the Phase 4 sound mat too and start to get to know your way around it.

We wanted to let you see what they get up to from day to day. It is very special and we hope that you enjoy it.
You could have a go at making up a similar story for your family.

Happy ReadingThis suggestion for learning is a a bit like Monday’s Days of the Week Suggestion.
There’s lots of ideas here to do with the months of the week.
Write out the months on postits.
Can you recognise and read each month?
Try this out:This month is……………..
Next month will be …………….
Last month was ………………..
The first month of the year is….
The last month is…….
My birthday is in …….
Christmas is in……………………….
This may lead on to chat about seasons.
That might be tricky.
Use the words for handwriting. Your Pioneer will spot the use of capital letters and see the difference in size when used together with the lowercase.
Use a selection of capital letters and ask your Pioneer to match the correct one with the correct month.
The spelling is very tricky. If they want to try writing them by themselves then that is great too.
Count the months.
Have a go at putting the months of the year in order

I have written out 3 texts,one for each day. perhaps your Pioneer could read these.
try sating other sentences for each day. Try them out and almost learn them in your head before having a go at any writing.

Take time to fill in your chart. Make symbols for each day. Write a sentence to say what you have done.
My sentence does say Mr Wolf. I am saving the sentences about me for tomorrow.

Can you help him to spot some more?
Write out your number sentences.
