Here are some lovely suggestions for you Pioneers…Enjoy.

Good Morning Pioneers, I have prepared a wonderful selection of different suggestions for you to enjoy today and I think that some of them will make you smile.

We always enjoy a song and today you can have two songs: 17 in the Bed ( a Pioneer Style version of 10 in the bed) and another favourite  5 Currant Buns ( ihave changed the words a litttle for that one too!)

Both of these songs have lots of subtraction.

Here is a wonderful maths song with subtraction.
Once you have watched it,try drawing some pictures to tell the story.
When you have done that you can write the number sentences using – and =.
You can also have a chat about how much the buns might cost.
Make some price labels for you shop.
Do you need any change?
How much do the buns cost altogether?
Take a look at some coins and play “Botham’s “
That’s Maths Magic.

If you want to do some writing to go along with the maths song, you could do some signs and some sentences. Here are some words and ideas to hep you:
Use you tricky words from the last feel weeks to help.
Come and get some big buns.
There is 1 bun left.
They are in a dish.
I got a coin.
I got 3 buns.
There are some buns.
Come and see.
Make labels and add the price.

Here is another maths song to get you doing some subtraction or take away.
Get your numberline out and do jumps backwards along with the song.
You could draw a picture of all the Pioneers together and give them each a number as they roll out of bed.
I was so excited about singing that I may have muddled some of the numbers so you need to listen and check I got it right!
You could also do some subtraction and that might be difficult.
Start at 17 and take 1 away. 17-1=16, then 16-1=15 and keep going.
Use magic beans or use your toys and pretend.

Take a look at a few episodes of Numberblocks

Ten green bottles ( the first section of this clip)

17
We have 17 in our class and that number features in the song.

That’s Maths Magic

Handwriting for the weekend.

Good Morning Leaders.

A bank holiday weekend – fingers crossed for sunshine.

If you are celebrating VE day, have a lovely time, if not enjoy spending some time with your family – maybe set up your dining room as a café or restaurant and surprise the adults in your household.

Also, a final call for your hello videos or message photos. If you haven’t already, please make sure I have them for Monday and then I will put them together and send them out to everyone who has contributed.

English

Time to start thinking about getting to the end of your project. How did you plan your workload? Have you got lots left to do?

I’m looking forward to seeing your comics and animations after the weekend. There has been some amazing work completed so far.

Maths

Problem Solving

Have a go at using the clues to solve the problem. Remember to read the clues carefully – you many not need all of them!

History – VE Day

I’m sure you have seen the activities that Mrs Burton has been posting and I know that many of you have been making decorations and bunting ready for the occasion but, what does it all mean?

Find out all you can about what VE Day is – https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/48201749 – this might be a good place to start.

Wonderful Wednesday! – 6th May

Hello everyone. I hope you are all well and happy!

Todays suggested learning on Tapestry is as follows:-

In Maths, we will continue with our times tables (you are doing so well with them). Today we will practise counting in 10s.

In English, we will play a Game of Pass the Story. Check out Tapestry for more details – it’s lots of fun!

In Phonics today there are some sentences to read together. These sentences have lots of our phonics sounds in them, so I know you will be great at this!

In Geography today you will need your detective hat on! Will you be able to find out the answers to Mrs Brown’s questions about continents? hmm I wonder who will answer them all?

Mrs Grason has set a Blue Peter Badge challenge – how totally exciting- I wish I could do it! Read the information on Mr Grason’s email or on Tapestry to see what you need to do. Go for it! You can do it, I Know you can!

The sun is shining today, so make sure you enjoy some time in the fresh air with the sun on your faces.

Keep sending your messages in!

Keep happy and keep smiling,

Best wishes,

Mrs Brown

Good Morning Adventurers – another sunny day!

Thank you for all the ‘Hello’ videos you’re sending in. It’s lovely to see you! Keep them coming.

Are you ready to get busy? (more details are on Tapestry)

Today’s activities:

Handwriting – practise the letter ‘Kk’, it’s a tricky one!

Maths – key skills, 10 questions in 10 minutes.

Continue to practise the times table challenge.

Division by sharing. To help, use objects or draw images and then write the division sentence.

English – join me for shared reading of ‘Meerkat Mail’ as we follow Sunny’s adventures. Then, write a postcard from Sunny about a place he has visited. I chose Antarctica.

Nature – take a moment outside to listen to all the beautiful birdsong. Can you identify any of the birds? What do they look like?

I hope you have a lovely day and enjoy doing some of the tasks.

Good Morning Leaders.

Another beautiful day with sunshine to warm our hearts. As you will know, it is VE Day on Friday and I know that Mrs Burton has been posting lots of VE ideas for you. I was wondering whether you were planning to do anything with your families, and I would love to hear. Send me a message, video or photos to let me know your plans – can’t wait to hear.

English

Have a look at the clips to give you some more ideas for your comic strip or animation. If you are animating, you will need some patience to capture the movements – if you do too much at once it won’t necessarily work.

Remember not to rush, you have the rest of the week to finish your project.

Maths

Diagonal Addition Investigation.

Look at the green square which contains the numbers 2,3,12 and 13.
Do you notice anything about the sum of the numbers that are diagonally opposite each other?

Look at the pink square.
What happens this time when you look at the numbers diagonally opposite each other?
What about the yellow square?
You could try with other squares which have four numbers in them.
Can you find a reason why what you notice, happens?

Look at the squares shaded red. They form the corners of a large 3 by 3 square.
If you add the numbers diagonally opposite each other, what do you notice with this larger square?
Can you find a reason why what you notice, happens?

What happens for squares of different sizes?

Geography – What is a Biome?

Today I would like you to investigate biomes. You can use the clip below to help you.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z849q6f/articles/zvsp92p

Once you have found out, choose one type of biome and carry out some further investigation. You can present this information however you wish.

Wow! It’s Wednesday.

Snails are beautiful and here is a link to a beautiful picture of a snail created by the famous artist Matisse

https://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/matisse-the-snail-t00540

I am also including a link to a lot of activities from the gallery in London where you can see this art work:

https://www.tate.org.uk/kids

I have had a go at creating my own copy of Mr Matisse’s Snail. You could use any paper pieces you have to create your own snail. He called his art form “painting with scissors”

As with Bug Quiz, look at all the features of the text: the index, contents page, labels, photographs and page numbers.
Go slowly with the sounds and use your sound mat to help you.
Revisit “W” on Geraldine the Giraffe”

and have a look at this one on double letter.Always useful to chat about.

Happy Reading

I would like to introduce you to my Bugs. They have lots of legs and lots of spots. You may be able to spot some doubles. You can write and draw some maths pictures.
Bugs like sweets.
But the are not so very good a sharing.
Have a go at sharing. Perhaps you could do it with some of your toys.
In some of the pictures the bugs have not shared equally. They do not have half each. This is not fair.
Count carefully and check.
Happy Counting

Wednesday 6th May 2020

Good morning Discoverers,

I hope that you managed to enjoy the sunshine that we had yesterday.

Today in English, I would like you to think of a setting (place) that you character was travelling to, in your ‘Adrift’ story. I want you to imagine what it might look like there: it may be space, a desert, a made up land etc.

I would like you to draw the setting, including as much detail as possible. Enjoy taking your time, and experimenting with colour.

Here are the answers for yesterday’s maths questions, and your next set for today 🙂 I hope that you enjoy marking your own work, and seeing how many you get correct. Remember, if you didn’t score too well, aim to get one more correct, you can do it!

In french today, you are moving on to writing the French translation of ‘Wednesday’. Remember, you can watch Monday’s video to help you. Create a poster of the translated word, and display it somewhere around the home, for all to see.

Enjoy your day,

Mrs Taylor

Happy Tuesday! – 5th May

Good morning Learners and families!

If you haven’t already voted for your favourite story from last week, then today is your last day to do this! Login to Tapestry and select the Let’s Vote update – its easy to do!

Today in English, we are going to play a game of Character Guess Who – describe in detail anyone you like (a super hero, a book character, a family member, a teacher) but don’t say their name. The other person has to guess who you are describing! – It’s fun!

Yesterday in maths we counted in 2s and today we will count in 5s – practise makes perfect!

In phonics we will focus on the au sound – as in the word haunted.

Let’s make some VE day bunting and flags today to prepare for Fridays celebrations!

Have a happy day, whatever you are doing and keep sending in your messages and videos on Tapestry!

Keep smiling as always 🙂

Best wishes,

Mrs Brown

Good morning everyone! It’s a lovely sunny morning.

‘ Every day is filled with dreams and wishes’.

A BIG THANK YOU for all the super work you completed yesterday – it was lovely to see it all on Tapestry.

We have another packed day of learning if you wish to have a go.

Handwriting – practise the letter ‘Dd’.

Maths – Key skills 10 questions in 10 minutes.

Keep practising for the times table challenge.

Everyday arrays, these images can help us solve multiplication problems and we can find lots of arrays around the house. How many can you find?

English – Let’s continue our shared reading of ‘Meerkat Mail’ then write a post card from Sunny as he visits a different place or country. (I did mine from the Amazon Rainforest)

Art – I decided it was time to get my paints out and use my new drawing pens to create an observational picture of the wild flowers I picked on Sunday.

Enjoy the sunshine – you could even set up your classroom outside!

Good Morning Leaders.

I have seen some fantastic stories and settings so far which makes me excited for what will be produced by the end of this week; the creativity is flowing. I’m sure there will be some amazing things to look forward to.

English

In English this week, you have a choice. I would like you to either end up with your story in a comic strip or, if you have the facilities, to have a go making your story into an animation. For either option you can use your story setting from last week to help you.

Today is the time to decide which option you are going to choose and make a start. I will continue to upload things to help you but would like you to decide how you are going to go about this task and which part you feel that you want to do first.

Here is information about both animations and comic strips. Have a look and make your choice. You may want to make a start today too but remember you have the rest of the week to complete this so there is no rush – build up your comic/animation over the course of the week.

Problem Solving – Computational Thinking

There are some fantastic free resources available as schools are currently closed. Here is a resource from icompute for you have a go at.

You will need to be systematic and logical to solve the problem. Good luck!
