Our investigations of pattterns  developed quickly with the Pioneers leading the direction as always. We followed patterns made with Cussinaire Rods and Numicon before creating and recording our own. The exploration was extended by the addition of a variety of stuff-keys,jewels,records,washers and beads. The language used to describe the resulting patterns was detailed and specific.Things moved rapidly when one Pioneer began building upwards. The learning changed direction and the interactions were quite spectacular.

This was so exciting and the collaboration was quite amazing. The Pioneers worked together,talking and listening,changing and observing. They were unstoppable.

This week we have some wonderful new books to celebrate alongside the terrific selection we know and love. Pop in and take a look at our booktastic room and check out our Story Machine.

This week has been all about story telling. Could we change the world with three wishes? Our story characters Pat and Ned met a fairy,trapped in a jar, who told them that she could grant them three wishes. The wishes were soon used up as they argued over a sausage! They both realised that they didn’t actually need anything more than they already had. The week has been filled with dressing up,magic lanterns,wonderful Wish Sticks and fabulous stories.

The story telling will continue next week with the introduction of some new props,music and books.

Happy Stories Everyone!

The Pioneers mixed and stirred,cooked and ate then wrote lists of ingredients. As we didn’t have a frying pan we made waffles instead. Everyone tried a waffle and we discussed the importance of Lent.

Families joined the Pioneers for a lovely morning of reading and fun. It was so lovely to have the chance to share beautiful books.

After reading, “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”, Mrs Hann collected up some clouds with a big spoon. She brought them in for the Pioneers to feel and to and to flatten. 

The clouds went everywhere.

The addition of flour and water made the compost much stickier and the children experimented with the consistency. They were very restrained when helping themselves to their required ingredients. They helped each other and at one point I heard a little voice say,”We are a team.”

Look out for some fabulous writing done on Friday. This will be displayed in the classroom from Monday.

Cool Badger Food.

So many beautiful moments in learning.

The dry sandwich filling didn’t work so. we tried adding water. This was great fun but the filling was still a bit flaky. We really needed to add something else to hold it all together.

Following on from our trip to the forest,the badger came and ate all the sandwiches we had made. He left us a message asking us to make some more and write him a list of all the things we used. This caused a lot of excitement and a huge desire to write. Some spent the whole morning writing for the badger,filling two pages of ingredients. Some constructed their own sentences asking for help when needed.

The excitement continued outside where more sandwiches were made using dough and stuff.

Lucky Badger and his naughty brother had lots of food.

All of the work done is up on the walls in the classroom. 

More Badger snacks will be created soon to extend our exxploration of sandwich fillings. It could get messy!
