Friday 24th April 2020

It’s Friday Discoverers,

I bet you are ready for a rest, after all of your hard work this week.

In English today, I would like you to write the next paragraph in your story. This second paragraph will capture the description of your character. Remember to refer back to your plan, where you described your character, using adjectives, similes and metaphors. We will be continuing to write our story next week, so take your time, and think carefully about how you want to structure your sentences.

Yesterday, you were able to determine a pattern within your results, and create a graph to represent this. You may have found that boys have a better memory than girls, or that girls have a better memory than boys. You may have found that the older the person, the better their memory, or the younger the person, the better their memory. Whatever results you found, I want you to try another challenge on your family, to see if you find the same pattern. You can think of your own challenge to test their memory, or I have a suggestion for you.

Say a two digit number out loud and ask your family to repeat it, then a three digit number, and then a four. Keep going until they are unable to repeat the number, or until they repeat it incorrectly. Record how many digits they were able to repeat, so that you can compare the results afterwards. Remember to challenge each person in your family individually, so that they don’t have an advantage when it is their turn.

Lastly, in art you have been persevering with your animal drawing, and have produced several copies of the same animal, but including improvements each time. I was astounded with what you produced yesterday. Today, I want you to look at all of your drawings, and then focus on the progress you have made. Then, write down all of the things that you are proud of, and that you like about your final drawing, and the things that you have improved on the most. I want you to be as proud of your pictures as I am, because they are amazing.

You are all superstars, have a great weekend,

Mrs Taylor

It’s Friday,Pioneers !

We have made it to Friday. Congratulations. Here are some suggestions for learning:

Play! Play! Play! Play! Play! Play!

Here is a little maths idea that you can adapt and extend to suit your children. Select numbers that you may have been working with when estimating and counting this week.

It can lead to some great maths chat.

Useful phrases are,”I wonder…”,””How do you know? ,”Can you check?”

Remember to continue your estimating too.

Happy Counting

Read the book together. Look for capital letters. Look for any sounds the are on the sound map. Take it slowly.
This book has the -ng sound.

Thursdays news – 23rd April

Good morning Learners and families!

I hope you are all well today!

Todays home learning is as follows (more details on Tapestry)

  •  In maths, see if you can read some information using my pictogram. Then, use your own from yesterday to write some questions of your own.
  •  In English today we are looking at the Bubbles story and thinking about who Gabby met a long the way on her adventure. Who will your character meet a long the way and what will they be doing?
  • Phonics – today is the oy sound. Watch Geraldine the Giraffe search around her home for oy sounds.
  • RE – The Creation. The Bible teaches us that God created the World in 7 days. Play and singalong to a lovely tune to learn more.

Further to Mr Grason’s email yesterday I logged onto Oxford Owl to access reading books. It is very simple to do and totally free. You can choose your child’s reading level to suit all abilities! Give it a try!

Remember, today is the last day to send me a video message (if you haven’t already) I will be putting these together to send out tomorrow. I cant wait!

You are all doing a fabulous job with your home learning, keep up the good work!

Keep smiling 🙂

Good Morning Leaders

I has been good to hear all the things you have been going when I have contacted your families. Please do not worry if you miss my call, I will try and make contact again.

English

Today I would like you to, once again, think about your magical door but this time we are going to think about each of our senses. Remember our extended sentences from yesterday and try and put the extra information in these sentences as you write them.

I opened the magical door and saw…

I opened the magical door and heard…

I opened the magical door and felt …

I opened the magical door and smelt …

I opened the magical door and tasted …

Maths

Continue taking your temperatures at the 3 chosen times of the day. If you are not already plotting them on your graph you might want to draw your axis today so that you are ready to plot them all tomorrow.

You will need your completed graph to answer some questions tomorrow.

Doors – Sculpture/Art

Let’s get outside and enjoy the weather today. Have a go at making your door outside. This could be the same door that you have designed or a different one if you wish. It could be; a fairy door, a disguised door, a door made from recycled rubbish.

You can be as inventive as you like. I’m looking forward to seeing your creations.

Thursday 23rd April 2020

Good morning Discoverers,

I have been so excited for you to write you stories in English, after hearing about and reading some of your plans. I love how you have put your own twist on the plot! Enough of the planning now though, we are ready to write. Today I would like you to write your first paragraph. The opening paragraph to your story includes lots of description about the setting: it’s where you want to draw the reader in, and capture their attention. I have included an example of my opening paragraph, but also a copy of the complete story. I would usually share the WAGOLL at the beginning of our new topic, so I wanted to do this today to give you an idea of what your story could look like.

In maths today, I would like you to analyse the data from your completed table. Can you answer the following questions: Who in your family, has the best memory? Who has the worst memory? Are there any patterns linked with age and memory? Are there any patterns linked with gender and memory? My results showed that the older the person, the better their memory. In order to analyse your data, it may be useful to create a graph. I would like you to create a bar graph, to represent each person’s results at 10 seconds, 20 seconds and 30 seconds, like I have shown you below:

Today will be the last day that you will create another drawing for your animal. I am so impressed with the perseverance you have shown in art this week. You have proved that you are able to take constructive advice, and use it to help you make progress, and that is exactly what I have seen so far. So for the last time, I would like you to once again, speak with a family member and ask them to give you some clear, and specific advice about how you can improve your animal drawing. Then, create you final drawing, making it the best yet. Afterwards, take a look at all four pictures, and be proud of the improvements you have made 😀

Speak soon,

Mrs taylor

Happy Stuff for Pioneers-Thursday

Welcome to Thursday.

Have a wonderful day and play, play, play. Here are some suggestions for things to do today:

Ooops! Mrs Hann Got It Wrong

Take a look at the photographs. Each one has an error,a mistake. Maybe I counted without checking. Take a close look. Can you spot what is wrong?
Make up some sums with a grown up. Get them to check them. Can they spot any errors?
Get a grown up to make some for you too. Send some to your granny. Can she spot mistakes?
Send me your pictures and I will see if I can spot the mistakes.
Happy Counting
Remember to check

Handwriting

I have done a little video to support you with capitals and lower case letter formation. Today I have done s,e,and t.

All writing is good writing.

Story Time

I had a special request from Miley to read Supertato so the video is there for you all. If you have any requests for story time please, please, please let me know. I love reading stories for you all.

Here is the next exciting part of our story Jack and the Beanstalk. I love drawing story maps and telling stories.

Here is an idea…tell me what you think…Don’t do any writing….Tell the story
Get a grown up to watch while you use my storymap to tell the story.
How does that sound?
Or just watch our silliiness and enjoy the drama
Happy Stories Y’all

Hello Learners – Wednesday 22nd April

Hello Everyone.

We are being so lucky with the weather right now. Long may it last!

Todays suggested learning (more details on Tapestry) is as follows;-

In maths, we are going to create a pictogram from the information we collected yesterday. This is quite a skill so be really proud of yourself if you manage it! I have provided lots of examples to help you!

In English, there is a delightful audio clip of some beach sounds. Close your eyes and imagine you are there.  What can you hear? How does it make you feel?

Geography today, this will help us with our story. Where will our magic bubble take us? to a different country perhaps? Can you name 4 countries in the World and find out a little bit about each one? What is the weather like there? What foods to they eat? Are there any famous landmarks (ie the Eiffel Tower is in France)

Please remember these are only suggestions to be enjoyed if you would like to use them.

Don’t forget to send you video ‘hello’ messages in by the end of Thursday. I will put them together and send them out to you on Friday! I think this will be lovely!

Stay happy whatever you do today!

Keep smiling 🙂

Good Morning Leaders

I’ve seen lots of interesting door designs and I am looking forward to finding our where these doors will lead us next week.

English

Using your 6 sentences from yesterday, I’d like you see if you can now edit your sentences to make them even better.  Think about using; descriptive adjectives, powerful verbs, relative clauses, similes and metaphors.

E.g. I opened the magical door and saw …  a shoal of hungry shadows, tangoing through busy streets like a swarm

Maths

Continue taking your temperatures at the 3 chosen times of the day and either add them to your data collection or plot them on your graph if you are doing this as you go along.

You should have 3 pieces of data for each of your times by the end of today.

DIY Lava Lamp -Science

In science, you have been thinking about separating materials.  Have a go at making this fun Lava Lamp and watch how the materials separate.  How does this work scientifically?

It’s Wednesday Pioneers

These are my suggestions for learning today,if you need them  and some useful links that the Pioneers will recognise from school. They may help to fill a few moments in your day. Videos are available on Tapestry too.

Don’t forget to play . Play is the highest form of learning as someone very wise said.

Play. Play. Play. Play . Play.

Here is your new reading book and some ideas to use when you are reading.

Have your sound mat out to help you.

Watch Geraldine Giraffe to recap sh,ch and th. You might want to do this over a couple of days.
Here  are some  link to Geraldine:

Find all the sh words. Read. Copy . Write. Can you think of any others.
Repeat this with the other sounds..

Here is a very useful link to use everyday alongside your lists in the pack from school.

It is Mr Thorne doing all the High Frequency words that are useful.

Happy Reading

Jack and the Bean Stalk

Here is my story map for the start of Jack and the Beanstalk. I had a lot of fun drawing it. A man in a giant top hat helped by holding the paper and Nick composed a piece of music to help to tell the story. Video on Tapestry.

I hope you like the music and the stories.
Draw your own story map.
I will add more tomorrow.
What do you think will happen to the beans?
Do you think that Jack will meet the owner of the boots?
Happy Stories

Here is some number stuff:

I hope that the estimating is going well.

Here is a link to one of our favourite counting songs:

Have a look at the next Numberblocks episode:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0005y9m/numberblocks-series-4-3-tens-place

Counting on is a great way to get going with addition.

Have a numberline or a number square to look at.

You can count anything:shoes, pasta, teddies, stones or magic beans like me.

You can write down your number sentences if you fancy using + and =. You might even end up doing take away or subtraction.

If you are using playing cards the adding can get quite difficult so select your number to suit your needs. You could also try adding 3 numbers or even 4. once you’ve got the hang of it you can just count the symbols on the cards and miss out the magic beans.

Grown-ups – The Pioneers love to spot mistakes. It always good to make the odd error for them to identify and say why it is wrong.

Don’t forget to make your numbers nice and neat. I have added a little video to remind you.

Have a wonderful day and enjoy the sunshine with your families.

Play. Play. Play . Play. Play.

Wednesday 22nd April 2020

Good morning all,

Thank you for showing me your wonderful work yesterday, it looks like you’re having fun creating it, which is great!

Today in English, I would like you to create a plan for your opening paragraphs. These early paragraphs in your story, capture the setting and the character mainly, so it helps to have thought about how you would describe the two. I would like you to write down everything that you can think of, that would describe the setting (where the story is based). And then do the same for your character. Here is an example of mine:

In maths, today I would like you to complete the challenge, that will allow you to gather the information you need to complete the table that you created yesterday. You will need to lay out the fifteen items that you gathered on Monday, and cover them with a cloth/ towel. Then, individually call your family members in to the room. They need to complete the challenge separately, so that they don’t have extra time looking at the objects. You will need a timer for the next part. Show the items to each member of your family for 10 seconds, and then cover them up again, then ask them to name the items that they can remember. Next, add up a total and record it in the 10 second box, next to their name. Then show them the items for another 10 seconds (20 seconds in total), and record how many they remembered after this time, and then complete the same for another 10 seconds (30 seconds in total). Complete this challenge for each person in your home. I have included my example below:

In art, today I would like you to have another go at drawing your animal, but after receiving even more feedback from an adult at home. Like you did yesterday, I would like you to ask them to compare your drawing with the original picture, and ask them if they can give you some very clear, specific advice or how you could improve this. Then draw your animal again, after taking on board their advice, and compare all three pictures. Is your drawing improving, like Austin’s?

Enjoy,

Mrs Taylor
