Morning Leaders.

Thank you to those who have started sharing their work through Tapestry, it has been brilliant to see.  If you haven’t already you can still sign up by sending an e-mail to Mr Grason – it would be fantastic to see everyone there so that we can keep in touch.

English – if you had a go at carrying out a task yesterday, have a go at writing instructions for that task today.

Maths – look at your timetable and see if you can answer these questions:

Which is the longest activity and how long does it last?

Which is the shortest activity and how long does it last?

How many hours and minutes is it from getting up to going to bed?

Challenge – If you got up half an hour earlier each day until Friday, how many hours and minutes would it be then from getting up to going to bed?

Topic – There seems to be some love of cooking and baking at the moment so I though it might be nice to share a bun recipe.  Have a go at baking buns with your family and decorate however you can.  http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/28455/plain-buns-with-icing.aspx Take a picture and upload it – I’d love to see your creations.

Happy baking.

Tuesday News!

Good morning everyone!

Learners, today is the last day of March. What month will it be tomorrow? Sing the months of the year song and see if you can figure it out!

Below, are some suggested activities you might like to do today (see Tapestry for further details).

  •  Thinking about the story ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’, have a go making a cave/den for your own special bear! When I was young I  used to put a sheet over the kitchen table and make a den underneath! After that, you could write some instructions in your purple book to tell others how you did it.
  •  Phonics “ou” sound – watch Mr Thorne and Geraldine (further details on Tapestry)- They are always so much fun!
  •  Record your daily routine today – Check your clock and tell me what you are doing and when today!
  •  Science – We’re going on a materials hunt!

Remember these are just suggestions. Keep in touch with me and send me your pictures/videos of whatever it is you do today!

Don’t forget to tune in on Tapestry at 6pm for tonight’s story!

Sending you a smile 🙂    Mrs Brown

Monday 30th March 2020

Happy Monday Discoverers,

I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend and your families have managed to connect to Tapestry (our Sleights communication site). On Tapestry, we can communicate using messages, pictures and videos, so let me know if you need any help with any of the suggestions I give you on here.

For maths this week, it would be great to use some of the skills you’ve learned in statistics. Today, why don’t you keep an eye on how much physical activity your family are doing? Create a tally chart for each of the people in your home, and every time they are physical for five minutes or longer, give them a mark. If an activity lasts for ten minutes, they will get two marks, if it lasts for fifteen minutes, they will get three marks, and so on. At the end of the day, count up the tally chart and see which family member was the most physical. We will use this information tomorrow, so record it in your maths book so that you don’t lose it.

In English this week, we will be focusing on writing instructions. For today, it would be great if you could plan a meal or snack that you can make for your family. This could be a baked product, like a cake, or if you’re feeling adventurous you could make lunch for everybody: chat with your family to see what produce you have available. Write the list of ingredients and equipment that you will need, and I will give you your next task tomorrow.

Let’s plan a treasure hunt! Whilst we are all at home, let’s have some fun. In preparation for a treasure hunt on Friday, think of something that your family might like: this could be a token to watch a film of their choice, a token to choose their favourite game to play, a treat from the cupboard or something similar. Today, deicide the prize, plan how many clues you will hide around your home and plan where you might hide them. We will plan more tomorrow.

Again, let me know if you need any help through Tapestry,

Happy learning everybody,

Mrs Taylor

Monday 30th March

Good morning Learners and families. I hope you are all ok and have had a lovely weekend together.

The sun has gone behind the clouds for now, but I’m sure will be back out soon.

To keep you busy and entertained, I will be suggesting daily activities for you to do as part of your Home Learning!

Please do as much or as little of these activities as you can manage as part of your daily routine. Please access Tapestry for pictures and further details on each of these activities.

Todays activities are;-

  •  I will be reading “Were going on a Bear Hunt” as tonight’s story, so gather up your favourite bear (i’ll be brining mine) and join me at 6pm. You could draw a picture of your special bear in your purple book and tell me why he/she is so special.
  •  Fold some strips of paper to make caterpillars. Can you make a family of caterpillars of different lengths?  Decorate them too (be as creative as you like).   Which is the longest? Which is the shortest? Can you order them in length? if you have a ruler you can measure them. If you have a straw you can blow them to make them move!
  •  Phonics – our favourite! Todays sound is the “ay” sound – There are some real and pseudo (alien) words to practice on Tapestry.
  • A family portrait – let your artistic side out today. Draw a picture of yourself or a family member.

Please remember, these are suggestions only to help you keep busy.

Please send me pictures/videos on Tapestry of what you have done today or just a message to say hello.

Sending you a smile 🙂

Welcome to the New Week 30March 2020

Welcome to the new week. The suggestions for learning this week will centre around nests and eggs. The birds are chirping and are looking for worms so I thought it would be nice to look at “What comes out of an egg?”

I will put suggestions for learning on Tapestry. These will include a reading book and some ideas for counting and writing along with some ideas to explore and of course a story for you.

Please enjoy these together and as I always say these are only suggestions, often the Pioneers have the greatest ideas to follow.

Keep in touch.

Happy Learning

Who has ‘That Friday Feeling’?

Good afternoon Discoverers,

Thank you to those of you who have been tuning in with the blog this week. I love that so many of you are completing the activities that I am suggesting. I will now reveal the answers to the maths problems that I gave you yesterday:

  1. The answer to this question is £1.40.
  2. The number of footballs collected were 9.
  3. To be in the lead, Lillie needed 8896 points or more.

When I next speak with you, it would be great to hear how you got on.

Many people around the world have been spreading cheer by putting a rainbow picture in their window. If you would like to join them, simply draw, paint or create a picture of a rainbow and place it in your window. You could even create a tally chart of how many people smile when they pass your house. To take this even further, you could create a bar graph to record how many people pass your house at different times in the day: this may be by car or on foot.

Speak soon,

Mrs Taylor

Another sunny day!

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all well.

I’m sure you have come up with quite a few ideas to answer the question ‘Why are worms different colours?’ From my observations and investigation yesterday, I think it’s because earthworms burrow in the ground, swallowing soil as they go. Some of the soil is then deposited in the gizzard/body making them appear different colours. However, there is one species of worm that is bright blue!

Having spoken to some families yesterday I would like to share some of their ideas for home learning:

Build a den with your brothers or sisters and share a story together or snack. This can be done indoors or outside.

Do some maths outdoors using chalk to write your number sentences. You can play catch whilst reciting your times tables or count in 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and 10’s as you climb the stairs.

Build a model house, castle or rocket using Lego or other building bricks.

It was lovely to hear that you are all working together!

I would also like to suggest the Book Trust web page, www.booktrust.org.uk. as they have free read along books.

Keep up with the challenges on Sumdog. I’ve set myself the challenge of going on for 20 minutes everyday so i can get better at ‘The junk pile’ and ‘Cannonball’. See if you can beat me!

Hope you all have a lovely day.

Take care

Mrs Roe

Friday’s update.

Good morning Learners and families!

Today Chester Zoo are holding a Virtual Zoo Day (from 10am onwards). This might be fun to check out.

You could even draw a picture of your favourite animal and write a description of it in your purple book! hmm I think mine would be a giraffe!

Its fantastic to see what you’re getting up to through Tapestry….so keep posting!

Look out for tonight’s Bedtime Story too!

Keep smiling 🙂

Mrs Brown

Thursday 26th March 2020

Hello Leaders!

Another beautiful day so let’s enjoy the sunshine.  Have a look around your garden or local environment and see how many different minibeasts you can find.  You might also want to make a list of the amount of each different one that you find and then make a graph to show your results.  I am going to do some investigation myself and will show you what I find tomorrow.

With the beautiful weather, it made me think about being our in our forest, so I have also posted a link to teach yourself how to try a reef knot.  If you don’t have a piece of rope see if you can borrow a shoelace – just remember to return it afterwards!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aprfVTaxkk0

We’ll try another knot later in the week – that way we’ll be prepared for our first forest school session back in school – den building and hot chocolate.

Enjoy the sunshine.

Mrs Walker

Thursday 26th March 2020

Good morning all,

It has been lovely speaking with many of you over the past few days. It has been nice to hear that you are enjoying the sunshine, and have been keeping busy with fun and exciting activities that your families have planned for you.

The maths book that I sent home is definitely challenging, so my advice would be to attempt the questions that you are confident with, perhaps in section A, and then have a break with some fun maths activities online. Here is a website that I would recommend:

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/kids-activities/fun-maths-games-and-activities/

I also wanted to put some maths questions on this blog for you, I will publish the answers on here tomorrow so that you can check to see if you got them correct:

  1. Lucy visited the shop to buy some milk, bread and eggs. The bread cost £1.20 and the eggs cost £2.40. She paid with a £10 note and received £5 change. How much did the milk cost?
  2. Drew decided to mow the grass, but first he had to collect all of the balls that his dog had left out. For every 2 tennis balls, there were 3 footballs. If there were 6 tennis balls, how many footballs were there?
  3. Lillie wanted to play Sumdog, and was aiming to be the world’s best player. The top score was 15,292, her score was 6, 397. How many more points did she need to be in the lead? Don’t forget, to be in the lead she needs to score more than 15,292 altogether.

Good luck!

Mrs Taylor
