Good morning Leaders

April already – where did March go?

It’s fantastic to see you are beginning to upload things to Tapestry, having a go at your challenges.  It will be a great way to see your progress.  If you haven’t decided on your challenge or I haven’t yet collected your ideas, don’t worry I will be collecting all of them when I speak to your families (or you can post on Tapestry and tell me too!) and then we can put together a list so you call all see what people are doing.  I love the ideas I have been collecting so far.

English – It’s time to test those instructions, either try them out yourself or give them to someone else in the family to have a go at – remember to follow the instructions exactly to see if they work.

Maths – Continuing our work on time here are two links to time games that you might want to have a look at.

Topic – Have a look at this short video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLce9i2Ci5wand make a list of the similarities and differences between a mosque and our local church in Sleights.

Happy April everyone.

Wednesday 1st April

Good Morning, Welcome to a new month!

It’s been lovely to see all the wonderful activities you are doing at home and for us to be able to talk about them on Tapestry.

We have a new classroom Adventurers!

Are you ready for three new tasks? If you would like to give them a try, here they are:

Maths – as it’s the 1st April today I thought it would be nice to create our own calendar and mark on some special events for this month.

English – Exciting news! Try out your treasure trail with your families today then write a set of instructions so they can make you a treasure trail to follow.

Science – as we are surrounded by all the lovely features of springtime I thought a spring scavenger hunt would be good fun.

You will find more details about these activities on Tapestry and I hope you have a super day whatever you do.

Take care

Mrs Roe

Hello Learners and hello April!

Good morning everyone. I hope you are all well and happy!

I was so impressed with the caves you made for you bears yesterday. Your bears looked so cosy inside!

Here are some suggested activities to try today (See Tapestry for further information on each one).

  •  Still thinking about ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, can you write some instructions of how to get to the bears cave. Start your sentences with words like First, Next, After that……
  •  There is a fun maths/memory game to try! We loved this in my house yesterday!
  •  Phonics – Eva spotted the split diagraph a-e sound on her walk yesterday (clever girl Eva) it was in the word Iburndale and again in Lane. Can you spot some more today. (see document on Tapestry).
  •  History – We are loving learning about Victorians in our class, today can you draw, paint or even build a Victorian house.

Keep smiling whatever you’re doing today and keep me posted as always!

(See you at Storytime at 6pm) Mrs Brown

Wednesday 1st April

Happy 1st April Discoverers,

I was so impressed with the work that you showed me on Tapestry yesterday. I love how some of you were so eager to complete the work, that you’re ahead of schedule and have already completed your bar chart. So today in maths, please can you use your table that you created yesterday, and record these results within a bar graph. Alex has added a great example to Tapestry if you need an idea. If you are ready to move on, please spend some time on Sumdog.

Today is baking/ cooking day, and in English you should now be ready to create the meal or snack for your family. I would like you to use your instructions that you wrote yesterday, and try them out. Make notes as you go, if you need to make any changes within your writing. Upload pictures of your results to tapestry: Scarlett created a lovely lunch for her family yesterday, feel free to check it out for yourself.

You’re almost ready to hold your very own treasure hunt. On separate pieces of paper, write each of your clues out and number them so that they are in the order your family should find them. If you need an idea of clues, here are mine:

Let me know if you need any help,

Mrs Taylor

What’s Hatching?

Earlier this week,I read The Odd Egg. I didn’t finish the story and asked you what was hatching.

Someone said it might be a big bird. Someone said it might be a T-Rex. I was sure that it was going to be a dragon.

Take a look at this video to find out just what came out of the egg:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a25kikvEpOw

It wasn’t a bird but a thing with sharp teeth and snapping jaws.

Pop over to Tapestry to see some suggestions for a job to do today.

Tuesday 31st March 2020

Good morning everybody,

How did you get on with the tasks that I set you yesterday? For today’s plan in maths, I want you to analyse the data which you recorded within a tally chart yesterday. I would like you to now order your family members in a table, starting with the least active, through to the most active. It would be great if you can then work out the difference in minutes, between the most and the least active. Feel free to share your results on Tapestry with me.

In English, yesterday you wrote a list of ingredients and equipment that you would need, in order to create a meal or a snack for your family. Today, I would like you to now write some instructions for creating your product. I thought this would be a good idea, so that tomorrow you can make the product and decide if you need to add/ change/ remove any of the steps that you included within your instructions. If you have never made the meal or snack before, feel free to use tips from online or from your family to help you: you can even message me on Tapestry for baking/ cooking hints.

For your treasure hunt, yesterday you planned what treasure you would hide, and how and where you would hide the clues in order to find the treasure. Today, I would like you to order your clue’s hiding places and begin to think of clues that could lead your family to finding the next one. For example, if I start off by handing them the first clue, which reads: Here you will find bombs. They explode rainbows of glitter and fill the house with a marshmallow scent. They will then have to find where the bombs are in the house (in the bathroom drawers) and discover the next clue, which will lead them to another location in the house.

I can’t wait to hear about your treasure hunts,

Mrs Taylor

Tuesday 31st March

Good morning everyone!

A big thank you to all those families who posted photos and comments on Tapestry yesterday it really made me smile! It was lovely to see all the wonderful things you are doing at home. I was also very impressed with how hard you are working to complete tasks!

Today, I would like to suggest the following activities, if you wish to try them. Are you up for the challenge?

More details and examples I have completed myself are on Tapestry.

Maths – continuing with time, I would like you to create a daily schedule recording the time you complete different activities through the day. For example: 8:15 have breakfast, 9:00 exercise.  Draw the clock as well to show the time.

English – continue the work on the picture treasure trail by writing and drawing all the clues you need.

Science – create a weather chart for the week so you can record the daily weather using observations and the equipment you may have made yesterday.

I hope you enjoy the above activities and I look forward to seeing your work.

Don’t forget story time around 3pm on Tapestry.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

Take care

Mrs Roe

P.S. Get ready with ideas to decorate eggs later this week!

Tuesday 31st March 2020

Morning Leaders.

Thank you to those who have started sharing their work through Tapestry, it has been brilliant to see.  If you haven’t already you can still sign up by sending an e-mail to Mr Grason – it would be fantastic to see everyone there so that we can keep in touch.

English – if you had a go at carrying out a task yesterday, have a go at writing instructions for that task today.

Maths – look at your timetable and see if you can answer these questions:

Which is the longest activity and how long does it last?

Which is the shortest activity and how long does it last?

How many hours and minutes is it from getting up to going to bed?

Challenge – If you got up half an hour earlier each day until Friday, how many hours and minutes would it be then from getting up to going to bed?

Topic – There seems to be some love of cooking and baking at the moment so I though it might be nice to share a bun recipe.  Have a go at baking buns with your family and decorate however you can.  http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/28455/plain-buns-with-icing.aspx Take a picture and upload it – I’d love to see your creations.

Happy baking.
