Good Morning Adventurers – Welcome to Wednesday!

Well, we’ve woken up to a cloudy, rainy day and the sunshine has gone for now!

But I think it’s a great day for doing some indoor exploring and learning and myself and Mrs Burton have lots of super activities you could try. (More details on Tapestry)

Handwriting – practise the letter ‘Ww’

English – think of another animal you would like to study. Draw and label a picture of it and write down some facts you already know. I’ve chosen the Painted Lady Butterfly as we raised these several times in class.

Maths – Key Skills for Year 2 and Year 3 then we are going to explore weight/mass/. You could try making your own balance scale to compare the mass of different objects then weigh 10 everyday objects and order them by their mass/weight.

Geography – choose a country you would like to visit and create a leaflet about it.

DT – carry on adding more detail to your minibeast/animal box.

There has been some fantastic work posted on Tapestry and I am very proud of everything you are doing Adventurers. Please keep sharing.

Wednesday’s News – 3rd June

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all ok today! The sun has gone in for a while, but I’m sure it will be out again soon!

Today’s suggested learning on Tapestry is as follows:-

In Maths we are looking at 2D shapes and using the correct language to describe them.

In English, we are thinking about persuasion. What does it mean and how do we do it?

Let’s do some spellings today and become experts at spelling the days of the week!

In History, we are being introduced to a new historical figure – Henry VIII – he is so interesting!

Keep in touch with me through Tapestry as always. Do some colouring today or get out a board game – they are always fun!

Keep smiling even though the sun has gone in, it will be out again soon!

Hi there Discoverers,

Did you enjoy the sun yesterday? It is raining and cloudy for me this morning, as I am looking out of the window. 

Hopefully, these tasks will keep you busy 🙂

In English today, you are going to be creating a plan for your diary entry. You have written a list of activities that you may have got up to during a day at school, as a Victorian child; you have also written down emotions that you might have felt throughout these activities.

Today, you will focus on creating a timetable for your day. You need to imagine that you are a Victorian child, at school, and come up with a plan for what you did during the day. 

You could write a simple timetable of what you did throughout the day, in list format. Or you could create a timetable which gives a schedule, including times and lessons for each. 

Here is an example for you, but you only need to create a timetable for one day, as this is what you will focus on when you write your diary entry. 

 

In maths today, you will continue working with decimals, but I have a problem for you to solve. 

Take a look at Annie’s opinion, and see if you agree with her. 

In your answer, it would be great if you could write if you agree, or disagree, and include your reasons for this. 

Look carefully at the columns which the digits are in, and see if it matches her number. 

Today in science, you are going to be learning about the anatomy of a flower. 

On Monday, you labelled parts of a plant, but today you will be specifically focusing on the parts of the actual flower. 

I would like you to watch video 3. The anatomy of the flower, and then see if you can draw a picture of a flower, and label the different parts. 

There are many parts, which include some tricky vocabulary. So you might like to focus on trying to remember only a couple of the parts each day this week.

Wednesday is a Great Day For Learning about Mr Puffin

You will have seen Mr Puffin with me in lots of my recent videos. He is quite happy here in Whitby but it is not his usual home. He lives on a cliff edge and flies out to sea for his food. He doesn’t eat pizza like me.He eats sand eels. Here are a few links so you can take a look at his real home.

The weather has changed and Mr Wolf will need some different clothes.
Take this opportunity to discuss weather symbols and words for weather.
Stand outside under an umbrella.
I have written out 3 texts,one for each day. perhaps your Pioneer could read these.
try sating other sentences for each day. Try them out and almost learn them in your head before having a go at any writing.

It is using the clock face and this time it is subtraction,take-away,minus.
I love it.
Spot the combinations and write the number sentences.
Make up some of your own.

Good Morning Leaders

Mr Grason has sent out details of this year’s summer reading challenge although it is starting earlier than normal on the 5th June. This year’s theme is Silly Squad and is all about funny books, happiness and having a laugh!

To complete the challenge you just need to read six books that make you happy – whether it be a comic, joke book, poetry, fiction or non-fiction, in digital or print format, from e-books borrowed from the library or from what you already have at home.

North Yorkshire Libraries are still closed for the moment but there are a terrific selection of children’s’ eBooks and eAudiobooks available to download for free. A library card and PIN is needed to download them but if you are not yet a member it’s easy to join – just call call 01609 533878.

It would be fantastic to see ALL Leaders part of the summer reading challenge – I know how much you all love a good giggle! ?

Graphic Novel – English

From your story plan, decide how many pictures you are going to need to tell your story. Remember that you might want to have a page with a full picture or, like The Arrival, you many have multiple smaller pictures on a page to tell smaller parts.

You will have the next 3 days to put together your graphic novel so take your time to build up the pictures for your story.

Function Machines – Maths

The function machines today include using decimal numbers. Can you work out the functions of the machines? Do you think this makes them harder?

Fact File Top Trumps

We have all been enjoying time outside in the wonderful weather so I thought it might be a good idea to use some of the things that we have probably seen on our travels.

Today, I would like you to make a fact file or Top Trump card about something you have seen, it may be an animal or an insect – the choice is yours. ? ? ?

You might want to make a few different ones to make your own Top Trump card game.

I hope you are all well and happy today!

Today’s suggested learning on Tapestry is as follows:-

In Maths, we are still looking at 2D shapes – lets have some fun and make pictures just using shapes! I wonder what you will come up with!

In English, we will have a reading focus today! Why not sign up for the Virtual Summer Reading Challenge on the 5th June – it’s such an achievement to complete it at the end of the summer. Also, make sure you are keeping up with your fantastic reading – it is the most important thing!

In Phonics we will practise our sounds by saying and writing the sounds – why not use different colours to write them.

In Art today, Mrs Brown was inspired by some feathers she found – can you draw or paint a delicate feather?

Good Morning Adventurers – It’s another sunny day!

Thank you for sharing your news from your holidays, it was lovely to hear from you.

I’d like to draw your attention to the libraries virtual summer reading challenge called ‘Silly Squad’ which will celebrate funny books, happiness and laughter. you can sign up at sillysquad.org.uk from Friday. Perhaps it would be nice for us to share some funny books from this date too.

I was very impressed with all the outdoor learning you have been doing and hope you can enjoy the sunshine whilst completing today’s activities. (More details are on Tapestry)

Handwriting – practise the letter ‘Vv’.

English – complete some research about your chosen animal by looking in books or going online. Write a short report using headings and subheadings to organise your information. You could even try writing it up on the computer.

Maths – Key Skills for Year 2 and Year 3 then complete today’s measure task which is to measure the height of everyday objects.

DT – add more detail to your minibeast/animal habitat box.

I’ve enjoyed planning these activities and hope you enjoy completing them too. I love seeing the work you are doing so please keep posting it on Tapestry so I can reply to you.

It’s Almost Time for the Library Summer Reading Challenge

I know that many of you take part in the Summer reading challenge, which happens every year at Whitby library.

The great news is that you can still take part! It begins on the 5th June 2020.

You can read books from home, or books online, and the theme this year is brilliant: Silly Squad!

I know how much we enjoy sharing jokes in class, or retelling silly stories that we have read, so I think this is perfect for you all.

Good morning Discoverers,

Thank you for sharing examples of your fantastic work yesterday, it really is great to see that you’re back in to your routine already! Well done 😀 

In English today, you are going to use the list of activities from yesterday, and focus on the emotions that you would feel throughout them.

When you write a diary entry, one of its key features focuses on the author sharing their emotions at the time of different events. 

Please can you write an emotion to describe how you may have felt, whilst carrying out any of the activities that may have happened during your school day as a Victorian child. For example: spelling out loud to the headteacher = scared. 

In maths today, you are going to continue adding decimals to make one whole, but today you will add hundredths instead of tenths. 

Remember, to make one whole, each of your numbers needs to make 100. To find the missing decimal, you could use the inverse operation. For example: 0.61 + ? = 1, you could find the answer to 100 – 61 = ? The answer to this will become your decimal. 

I have left the last question blank so that you can make your own. Use my examples to help you think of one. 

In science today, I would like you to watch the second video in the series, which focuses on what plants need to survive.
