Good Morning Leaders

Yet another beautiful day – please make sure you put on your sun cream and hats if you are outside. ??

Rain Before Rainbows – English

Today, I would like you to complete a piece of descriptive writing to go with the picture that you completed yesterday. Remember to choose your words wisely, using powerful vocabulary to build a picture in the reader’s mind.

Graphs – Maths

Today, we are going to look at pie charts. Remember these show a portion of a whole (like slices of a cake).

Have a look at the graph and then have a go at answering the questions.

Seed Dispersal – Science

‘Sowing and planting. Root before shoot. Stem before flower.
Leaf before fruit.’

When plants get to the end of their flowering cycle you may have heard the term ‘gone to seed’ this means that they have finished flowering and they are beginning to produce seeds to make new plants and flowers. These seeds travel in a number of ways.

Today, I’d like you to investigate the different ways seeds can be dispersed. You might want to begin by watching the clip below.

Thursday’s News – Another Sunny Day! 25th June

Good morning everyone!

Wow the weather was hot hot hot yesterday!

I hope you all enjoyed the sunshine!

Today’s suggested learning is as follows:- More details on Tapestry!

In English, we will be thinking about the line from our book ‘ A day full of promise, a day full of light’.

In Maths, we are thinking about comparing objects to 100.

In Phonics we will be phoneme spotting and using our comprehension skills too!

In Science we will think about what part of a plant our fruit and vegetables come from!

Keep cool today, it’s a warm one again!

Keep smiling 🙂

Thursday 25th June 2020

Hello everybody,

I hope that you had a great night’s sleep!

Here are the answers to yesterday’s questions. Did you give Jack the same advice?

Today, in maths, you are going to analyse some data.

Look carefully at the yellow circle, and remember that a full circle is worth 20 points. This means that half a circle would be worth 10 points. How many points would a quarter of a circle be worth? And three quarters?

When looking at the second table, remember that to find 1/4 of the total number of votes, you will first need to add up all of the votes.

Good luck, and let me know if you would like any help 😀

In English today, we are focusing on the lines: There are mountains for climbing, journeys to take.

Can you think what these lines might be a metaphor for?

I read the lines as representing the struggles that people may face in life.

Can you think of any mountains that you have had to climb recently? It may be a small struggle, or something bigger, perhaps it was the struggle of not being able to come to school?

How did you manage to climb the mountain, and face your dilemma?

Today, I would like you to draw some of the struggles you may have faced, and then show me how you have overcame them.

Yesterday, in RE, you thought about the important events which may occur in your lifetime, and the celebrations that you would like to have.

Today, I would like you to spend time talking with an adult, to find out about the celebrations in their life so far.

You may decide to phone somebody in your family, or talk to somebody at home.

These are the questions you could discuss: Which important events have happened in your lifetime? What happened? Did you celebrate? How?

Have another great day in the sunshine,

Make sure you put lots of sun cream on, if you are going outside today,

Mrs Taylor

Here is a worksheet for you to try.

Yesterday’s suggestion was about what to pack for a journey.
Continuing on that theme, here is a suggestion for you:
Below are photographs of a selection of tools you might need on your journey.
What would you use them for?
Which one would be good for scooping peanut butter from a jar?
Which one would be good to lift up a wiggling worm?
Which one would you chose if you needed to help a baby bird back into its nest?
I’m not sure what they are all for. Could you tell me what you think and why?
Could you use any of them to dig a hole?
Would you be able to paint with any of them?
I’d love to hear what you think.

Wednesday’s News – 24th June

Good morning everyone.

I hope you enjoying the lovely weather. A few families told me yesterday they were heading to the beach to enjoy the sunshine – how lovely!

Todays suggested learning activities are as follows;- More details on Tapestry!

In English, we are reading our story ‘Rain Before Rainbows’ and using lots of expression as we do!

In Maths we are having a backwards kind of a day and focusing on counting backwards.

In Phonics we will learn about suffixes and do some word-ending spotting!

Let’s Enjoy some PE in the sun (this can even be enjoyed on the beach too). Make an obstacle course to enjoy today!

I hope you manage to enjoy the lovely weather. Keep me posted and let me know what you are up to!

Good morning Adventurers!

Good morning Adventurers – what a beautiful day! Make sure you use lots of sun cream and wear a sunhat today if you are oging outside as it is going to be a scorcher!

Todays activities are over on tapestery.

In maths, there is a key skills activity followed by some word problems.

In English, I would like you to complete your stories and then edit to improve them – can you think of any vocabulary that would making it more exciting/interesting. Also, remember to check your spellings and punctuation.

In science, I would like you to order the different phases of planting a flower.

I hope you all have a lovely day!

Wednesday 24th June 2020

Good morning, Discoverers,

I hope you are well 🙂

Here are the answers for yesterday’s maths questions. How did you get on?

Today, you are continuing to look at statistics, and Jack needs some advice.

Look carefully at the graph he has created, and answer the questions related.

Today, in English, we are focusing on the lines ‘Night before daybreak, the old day is done.’

What do these words mean?

You may interpret the lines as meaning that every day, when you wake up, it is a fresh start.

I want you to imagine that you can do anything when you wake up tomorrow. You have the whole day to plan as you wish.

I would like you to create a plan for what you would do with your day, from the minute you wake up, to the minute you go to sleep.

You might like to create a timetable, and present your plan within it. Or you could write your activities in a list, but remember to include timings so that you know you can fit everything in!

I can’t wait to read about where you would go, and who you would see 😀

Today, in RE, I would like you to think about your future.

Which celebrations would you like to see in it?

I would like you to think about important events that you would like to happen in your lifetime and try to answer this question: Why do you want these things to happen? What would it mean to you? How will you celebrate?

For example: You might like to go to university, so you may see yourself at graduation. You might want this to happen, so that you can get the job you are wanting. It may be very important to you and so you might celebrate by attending a graduation event, and then having a special meal with your family.

You could discuss this task with a family member, or you may like to write it down.

I am sure that there are many celebrations that you are looking forward to, and I can’t wait to hear about them.

Have a great day everybody,

Mrs Taylor

Wednesday the 24th of June 2020- Suggestions for Pioneers.

Count the strawberries on the plate.
Count the ponies in each photograph.
How many strawberries can each pony have?
Can you make it fair?
You can draw pictures.
You can write number sentences.
That’s maths magic!

“I went on a trip. I put my things in a brown bag. I am sure I forgot stuff. I checked my list…
In my brown bag I put…”

In the story “Rain Before Rainbows” there is a line about going on a wonderful journey.
If you were going on a journey you would need to pack a bag.
What would you take with you to go on a trip?

Look at the tings that I have packed in my brown bag. Can you list all the things.
You could use my sentence starter to play the memory game.
Are all the things that were in the bag on the 2nd photograph?
Is there anything missing?
Is anythiing differemt?
You can write a list or some sentences.

Here is you phonics suggestion for today. Revise the sounds from Monday and Tuesday and add in todays which is “ar”

Good Morning Leaders

The sunshine continues to shine – remember your sun cream if you are going outside. ?

As things begin to get busier, it is important to keep taking some time to do lovely things with our families, noticing the new flowers, the changes in our environment and the wildlife that has come out of hiding before it disappears back to somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of humans.
On your walk today, see if you can spot anything different that you may not have spotted before.
Happy spotting. ?

Rain Before Rainbows – English

We have looked at both the illustrations and characters from the story.
For the next two days, we are going to use the information we have found to create our own image and piece of writing.
Think of a situation or emotion that you would like to portray.  Today, you are going to do an illustration of that and, if you upload a copy of this, I will try and guess the scenario you are trying to portray.
Tomorrow, we will complete the piece of writing to go with it.

Graphs – Maths

Today, we will be looking at a line graph.  Remember how this is different to a bar graph and what the line represents.

What types of information will be represented in a line graph rather than a bar graph?

Have a look at the line graph and have a go at answering the questions.

Inheritance – Science

We have looked at different animals and yesterday, we looked at the fox, one of the characters from our book.  Today, we are going to explore inheritance and how animals pass on their features to their offspring.
You will need the following items for the practical investigation in this lesson :
glue, string and a variety of materials you can find around the house like a paper plate, cardboard, foil, brown paper, baking paper.
Follow the link and choose the video ‘Inheritance’ – remember you can watch this as many times as you need to.

Tuesday News – 23rd June

Good morning everyone!

The sun has got his hat on again today – how lucky are we!

Today’s suggested learning activities are as follows;-

In English, we are thinking about the line from our book that says ‘There are dragons to duel, battles to win’. today we will design our own dragon using the book ‘Tell me a dragon’ to help us further.

In Maths, looking at number again, we will focus on ordering numbers.

In Phonics we will be thinking about Common Exception Words – reading them and spelling them too!

In Science today we will be exploring wonderful hedgerows – they really are fascinating!

Enjoy the sunshine and don’t forget to look out for hedgerows you may pass! Can you spot a dog-rose flower?

Keep in touch and keep smiling 🙂

Best wishes,

Mrs Brown
