Morning Leaders

It has been lovely to hear what you have been doing last week and I am looking forward to being able to share more with you through Tapestry.

For those who would like to, I am going to set you three tasks each day: 1 English, 1 maths and 1 topic.  I know lots of you are busy with your arithmetic books and grammar so you can do as much or as little of this as you like.  You will find that that the whole school is going to try and follow the same maths and English topics so that you can completed these as a family if you wish.

English – we are going to think about instructions this week – today is the day to carry out a task that you will be able to write instructions for over the week.  Some ideas – making up a game, baking a cake or making a model.

Maths – the clocks have just changed and the evenings are now lighter so we are thinking about time.  Have a go at doing a timetable for your day at home using digital times.

Topic – try and draw a design for your Victorian light – remember to label your drawing and imagine that you have to fit the circuit inside.  (It would be great to start collecting some recycling material too so that we can make it once you have collected what you need.)

Finally, you can upload any of this (or anything else you would like to share) to Tapestry and I will be able to see it – very exciting!

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Morning Leaders

Firstly, well done everyone – our Sumdog percentages have increased very quickly – Wow!

I hope you all had more luck in your garden/environment yesterday than I did – I think maybe the bounding spaniel has scared mine away.  I’m going to have another look in the sunshine today.

As the sunshine is still out today, let’s do some art.  Find something, either inside or outside, to make a pencil drawing of.  Remember to use light and dark strokes, think about pattern and texture too.

Happy drawing.

Hello Leaders!

Another beautiful day so let’s enjoy the sunshine.  Have a look around your garden or local environment and see how many different minibeasts you can find.  You might also want to make a list of the amount of each different one that you find and then make a graph to show your results.  I am going to do some investigation myself and will show you what I find tomorrow.

With the beautiful weather, it made me think about being our in our forest, so I have also posted a link to teach yourself how to try a reef knot.  If you don’t have a piece of rope see if you can borrow a shoelace – just remember to return it afterwards!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aprfVTaxkk0

We’ll try another knot later in the week – that way we’ll be prepared for our first forest school session back in school – den building and hot chocolate.

Enjoy the sunshine.

What a lovely day!

What about using your science knowledge to carry out another heart rate investigation after exercise.  You could maybe find the difference in heart rates for all members of your family after doing the same amount of exercise.  Remember to make it ‘fair’ to give you the best results.

For those of you who would like something different to Joe Wicks, here are some other ideas to keep you active: http://www.imovement.com are the activities we tried whilst we were still in school; Oti Mabuse, from Strictly, is also doing a dance class for those dancers amongst us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btxws8qvYAA

It has been lovely hearing what you have all being doing so far and I will continue to be in contact with you and your families over the coming days.  Remember to think about your 3 week challenge – once I know what everyone is doing I will post them here so you can see what everyone has challenged themselves with.

Enjoy the sunshine and stay safe.

Morning Leaders

I hope lots of you joined me with Joe Wicks this morning – 20 different exercises in 20 minutes – well done everyone!  My personal favourite was the ice skater.  Same time tomorrow if you didn’t manage to join us today.

You will probably have heard that we now have at least 3 weeks in our homes – in those 3 weeks I would like you all to set yourself a challenge.  You all know that I showed you a ukulele in the class a little while ago with the promise that I was going to teach myself so we can learn as a class together.  That is going to be my challenge over the next 3 weeks.  Your challenge could be anything from learning something new to completing something every day for those 3 weeks.

I will be in touch with your families over the course of the week and would love to find out what your challenges are.

Good Morning Leaders

This is our first week of learning from home.  I am going to join Joe Wicks at 9am every weekday morning and I would love you to join me – we can all be active together!  Please follow the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz0go1pTda8.

Remember to try and complete some of your activities each day, little and often is the way to go.  It is also important that you spend time with your families: play that board game that has been hiding under the bed; make your lunch or tea together to practise your cooking skills and try and get some time outside in your gardens whilst the weather is nice.

More importantly, stay safe and healthy.

Reading – Books and Baubles

On Tuesday 11th February Leaders welcomed parents into their classroom for the exciting opening of their second books.

Over the course of the morning: we shared our books with each other; played reading games; and made a reading bauble.  We used vocabulary from our books that we thought would help people guess which book our bauble was about.

They are already hanging up in the classroom – we would love to see you come and have a go at guessing the books.

A Victorian Visit – Preston Park

On Thursday 6th February, along with Discoverers, Leaders visited Preston Park.  The aim was to begin to investigate the Victorian era, immersing ourselves into life in Victorian times.

Leaders began by spending time in the classroom, learning what life would have been like in a Victorian school.  There were many surprises: the amount of children in every class; the different ages of the children in a class; how the children would have carried out their lessons on a slate; and the punishments that you would be given if you did not something you were asked.

Teachers would most likely be women although, once they got married, they were unable to be a teacher.

Leaders spent the afternoon investigating the Victorian street.  There were so many tiny bottles in the Chemist, all were made of glass, and contained an array of different ingredients that would be mixed together to make medicine to treat you.  Leaders found the bottles in the sweet ship far more interesting, filled with a rainbow of different coloured sweets.  The lady in the shop explained who would have been able to buy the sweets and how much they would have cost.  There were some very sad faces when they realised that this would not have been a daily or weekly event.

The Drapers was the place they found out about the Victorian clothes, investigating lost of different headwear, and saw some Victorian pennies.

Finally, they spent some time on the street having a go at paying with some of the toys.  The hoops were much harder to use than the children expected.
