Hello Discoverers,

Today, in English, I would like you to create a front cover for the story you are going to write.

Use your plan, to help you design your cover.

You may decide to use the characters from your story on the front, or you may wish to leave the reader guessing, and put something which only hints towards the story’s plot.

It is always best to design your cover using pencil, which allows for changes to be made if they are needed.

Then, you might like to add colour.

 

Today’s maths question requires you to use your maths book or squared paper, and a colouring pencil/ pencil.

Use six squares in your book, to create shapes which are symmetrical.

If you want to check that they are symmetrical, you can cut them out and try folding them. If the sides then match, your shape has at least one symmetrical line.

 

Today in science, we are continuing to learn about nocturnal animals.

Visit yesterday’s website, and scroll down to the section which is titled: Night Creatures.

Scroll through the selection of twenty two nocturnal animals, and choose one which you will research throughout this week.

Today, using the image on this website, and any other images you find through research, draw your chosen animal and learn its features.

Happy last week, Discoverers,

I thought it would be nice to do something different in our final week.

In English, I would like you to use your imagination, and work on writing a narrative.

We have been learning lots about animals during our home-learning , particularly bees and fish most recently, so I thought it would be nice to round off this time by writing a story about an animal of your choice.

You can use your imagination, and write about any animal you wish, and your story can be about anything.

Today, I would like you to plan your story.

You will need to think about which characters will be in it, as well as where the story will be set, and finally, the actual plot.

Try to make notes about what will happen during the beginning, middle and end. This will help when you come to write your story.

 

In maths this week, we are also moving on, and will be learning about symmetry.

Today, I have a set of questions for you which all relate to symmetry.

For the first question, draw the shapes on a piece of paper, or print the question out and cut the shapes, so that you can fold their lines of symmetry.

For the second question, draw the table in your maths book, and draw the shapes in the correct sections.

For the final question, you will need to print it out, or redraw the shapes so that you can cut them out and fold the lines of symmetry.

 

We are going to be learning about nocturnal animals in our final week.

Today, read through the information on this website, and write a list of all the things that are different about nocturnal animals.

Good morning, Discoverers,

How are you feeling after your PE session yesterday? Are you aching?

Hopefully you are feeling ready to practise more PE today ?

In English, you are going to finish writing your information paragraphs, which you started yesterday.

Summarise the paragraphs into your own words, and capture the main points.

Then, draw and colour some relevant pictures, in the spaces you drew on Monday.

As tomorrow will be sports day, there won’t be an English task put on here for you.

Feel free to send me your finished reports. I’m excited to see what you have created 😀

 

In maths today, you are continuing to learn about four-sided shapes: quadrilaterals.

I would like you to complete the table, drawing or writing the name of the quadrilateral which fits into each box.

You only need to draw one shape in each section, and try not to be tricked, there may be one box in which no quadrilateral can fit.

In PE today, I would like you to prepare a practise sports day for you and your family.

This will get you warmed up, ready for the virtual sports day which the year six children have prepared for you tomorrow.

Use any activities you like, you may invent some new ones of your own, and most importantly, have fun!

 

Remember, year 6’s will put on their sports day post for tomorrow,

Good Morning Leaders

I hope you all had a good day yesterday,  At school, we spent the morning outside in the forest and caught up with our maths in the afternoon.
 
Today, we are hoping to see if our flowers and leaves have dried out that we collected and pressed last week. ??
 
Why is the Sky Blue? – English
 
Have a look at the pages attached.  They have used flaps to hide information from the reader, which are used to tell you the answers to the questions.
 
Today, we are going to link our questions wit art work and have a go at re-creating a lift-the-flap item to record the answer to a question.  You could use any of the questions that you have previously written down.  The ones about an object will obviously work best if you can re-create the object in paper with a hidden flap.

Area of a Parallelogram – Maths
 
We had a go at the area of a triangle yesterday.  Today, we are going to investigate the area of a parallelogram.
 
 
Floristry Thursday ?
 
Today, we are going to have a look at the flowers and leaves that you left to dry from last week. 
 
If you find they are dried out enough, I would like you to make a piece of artwork from them.  You might want to use the pieces to make a picture of something (like the person attached) or just make an arrangement of your dried objects.

Good Morning Leaders

I was sure the sun was going to put his hat on yesterday but I think he continued to hide throughout the day!!

I hope you have made some great plans to keep your ice cube frozen – take some time to collect the things that you have used in your design ready to make it at a later date.

Why is the Sky Blue? – English

You have probably heard the saying ‘that’s just the tip of the iceberg’ and possibly wondered what it means.

After looking at the page, what do you think this saying could mean?

We would think of people as icebergs with the tip representing all the visible things we can see straight away about someone with so many other things hidden underneath.

Today, think about someone you know well and think about them like an iceberg. What are the easily visible things which would represent the tip and what would be less visible and possibly hidden away that not everyone will see or know.

If you would like to, you could represent this with an annotated iceberg.

Area of Triangles – Maths

So far this week we have been looking at the area of 2d rectilinear shapes. Today, we are going to investigate finding the area of triangles.

Good morning, Discoverers,

How are you all this morning?

In English today, you will begin to fill in the information on your report layout, which you created yesterday.

I have uploaded many sections of information, which you studied last week. These can be summarised into your own words, and written underneath the subheadings that you created yesterday.

You will continue to fill in the information boxes tomorrow, so take your time with them.

 

In maths today, you are going to move on to looking at four sided shapes, named quadrilaterals.

Then, try to answer today’s questions.

 

For our additional subject, we have been looking at art.

However, for the rest of the week, we are going to begin to practise for our sports day which is fast approaching.

An observation will be added to Tapestry and on our school website, on Friday. This will contain instructions and videos of the activities, which you can take part in at home.

We will be taking part in the same activities at school 😀

Good morning all,

I hope that you had a great sleep last night ??

Today, in English, you are going to decide which information you would like in each of the information boxes that you have drawn. And, which pictures you will draw in the spaces you have chosen.

In a report, like the one you created about fish last week, you will find that there are subheadings above each different section of information.

A subheading gives you a clear idea of what the writing beneath will be about.

Today, I would like you to write the subheadings for each of the information boxes, and make a note of the drawings that you will create in the others. Your subheadings could be: Why are bees so important? What is pollination? How many species of bees are there? Why are bees dying? Etc.

You will also need a title, which tells the reader exactly what you report is about.

Your title could be as simple as ‘All About Bees’, or you could be more creative.

Well done with your maths work yesterday, you remembered the new vocabulary well ?

Today, you will be drawing the different types of triangles.

Try to draw two equilateral triangles (all sides are the same length), two isosceles triangles (two sides are the same length) and then two scalene triangles (no sides are the same length).

Today, in art, you will finish the drawing of your bee from yesterday.

You can use whatever colouring materials that you have at home. This may be paint, colouring pencils, or felt tips.

Try to capture the colours that are in the original picture, and observe any areas which appear to need shading.

Look carefully for any shadows, and try to use a darker blend of your chosen colour to add these.

Good Morning Leaders

Happy Monday. ?
 
I hope you have enjoyed your weekend and spent time with your families.   I know that there will have been some busy families this weekend with the re-opening of more shops and businesses alongside those who have worked all the way through.
Only two weeks left before the end of the summer term and there’s so much to fit in. We are going to spend some more time looking at questions that our book raises and investigating some of the answers.

Why is the Sky Blue?  – English

I thought we would stick with poetry for today.
 
Have a go at writing a shape poem based on the theme of stars.

Area and Perimeter – Maths

We have looked at both area and perimeter before in school.  Today, we are going to re-visit both of these.  Remember that area is the amount inside a shape and the perimeter is the measurement around the edge of a shape.
 
Have a go at answering the questions.
 

It’s Written in the Stars

Today, we are going to be thinking all about stars.  In our class reader, Who Let The God’s Out?, we have had lots of discussion about star signs and the zodiac.
 
There are constellations that represent these signs as well as other constellations.
 
I would like you to choose some constellations to investigate – you can present your ideas in any format.
 
I have also attached a Forestry England guide to stargazing which has some lovely information and ideas – this might be a good place to start.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. What did you get up to?

Today, in English, I would like you to start planning the layout of your report about bees.

Start by deciding how many information boxes you would like, and how many pictures you will draw.

Then, use a pencil to draw boxes on a piece of paper, where your text and pictures will be.

Here is an example to help you:

In maths, today, I have two problems for you to solve.

They are both in relation to shape, but you will need to use your knowledge of measure too.

Remember, the perimeter of a shape is the amount that all of the sides add up to.

And, in relation to the straws, they are all equal lengths, and can not be cut smaller.

As we have been learning lots about bees, and you will be drawing pictures for your report later in the week, I thought you might like to create a large piece of artwork of a bee.

Today, you will focus on drawing the outline, and tomorrow you will work on the colour.

Look carefully at the pictures I have provided, and choose which one you would like to draw.

Then, look carefully at the small details of the bee (using Friday’s bee drawing to help) and try to capture these.

Happy Friday Discoverers,

In maths, we are moving on from angles, and focusing on shapes.

Today, we are looking specifically at triangles.

There are three different types of triangle: scalene, isosceles and equilateral.
