You may have heard of Google Earth. We have used iti in the classroom and the children were fascinated however you may be unaware of Google Moon and even Google Mars.Have a whizz around the surface of the moon.It is incredible.

Happy Exploring Pioneers

This text is written for the Pioneers to read.
You could read this together.
Your Pioneer could have a try to read it.
If you learn the text and make a story map or do some pictures, you could try writing it for yourself.
Go slowly
Keep your sound mat handy and take a fresh look at Geraldine for “igh” and “oo”. if that would be fun.

Good Morning Leaders

Thank you to those of you who braved making videos yesterday. It would be fantastic to get more of you involved – even if I don’t see your faces and just hear your recording.

I am really missing see you all so it would be amazing to hear/see more of you involved next time. ?

Rain Before Rainbows – English

Today, I’d like you to go back and listen to the story again.

This time think about how they story makes you feel – this might be different in different part of the story.

You can either draw these thoughts and feelings like a story map or just discuss them with your family. Remember – it might not make everyone feel the same.

Money – Maths

Budgeting

When you want to start saving money it is important to know what things cost.

Today, I’d like you to do some research to find out how much things cost to buy.

If you had £20.00 to spend what would you buy? It doesn’t need to be from the list (but make sure you have done your research).

Rain Before Rainbows – Science

Today, we are going to investigate how rainbows are formed before seeing if we can make our own rainbow.

Rainbows are amazing – did you know that no two people will see exactly the same rainbow!! ?

You’ll be pleased to learn that you can make a rainbow without rain – have a go and see if you can create your own.

Good Morning Adventurers – welcome to Wednesday!

We’ve woken up to rain clouds again and a grey day but I’m sure we can still have a sunny day!

We might even see a rainbow!

Thank you for posting all your super work, comments and photos on Tapestry. It certainly brightens up my day!

Today’s activities, if you wish to try them include: (More details on Tapestry)

Handwriting – Practise the letter ‘Oo’

English – based on the text ‘Rain Before Rainbows’, get your paints out to create day and night paintings then think of words to describe day and night to write a descriptive sentence. I know some of you might want to include some animals we might see at night.

Join me for some shared reading ‘Slinki Malinki’ by Lynley Dodd.

Maths – Key Skills for Year 2 and Year 3 then go on a 3D shape hunt and name the shapes you find.

Art – create your night and day paintings.

Geography – continue your leaflet on a country of your choice.

I hope you manage to enjoy your day and have fun with your learning.

Wednesday News – 10th June

Hello Learners and families,

I hope you are all ok today! It’s a rainy day, but that’s ok as the warm weather will return soon!

Today’s suggested learning on Tapestry is as follows:-

In Maths, we will try our hand at some Place Value Code Breaking! Will you crack the codes?

In English, still focusing on our beautiful book ‘Rain Before Rainbows’ and the language used, we will think of pairs of things that go together one after the other ie rain before rainbows, clouds before sun.

We will do some Tricky Word spotting in Phonics today!

In Music, a musical storm to listen to and enjoy – perhaps you could make a rain stick today too?

Keep smiling whatever you are doing today. A great day to make an inside den!

Keep in touch as always,

Best wishes,

Mrs Brown

Wednesday 10th June 2020

Happy Wednesday Discoverers,

I hope you had a great day yesterday. I have been, as always, impressed with the work you have been showing me, and the tremendous effort that you have been putting in to it. Thank you.

Today in English, we are going to continue looking at different themes from our next focus story, ‘Rain Before Rainbows’. Today we will be focusing on ‘daytime’.

I would like you to use your list of differences from yesterday, to help you create a setting description for the daytime. This paragraph would usually include lots of adjectives, similes and metaphors, and simply describes a scene during the day.

To make it more interesting, try to include descriptions of things that stimulate people’s senses, such as what you can see, hear, taste, touch and smell.

Even though the weather is a little dull today, why don’t you find a nice scene outside to describe? It could be in your garden, or out on a walk, or simply be a description of things you imagine during the daytime.

How are you finding working with money in maths, this week? From what I have seen you are doing really well 😀

I have uploaded my answers from yesterday, but don’t forget, you may have different combinations of coins, which still add up to the same amount. If you combination is different to mine, ask an adult at home to check it for you.

Today we are focusing on a money problem.

Try to work through the problem slowly, figure out which operations you may need to use, and then give me your answer, with an explanation for it.

In science today, we are going to look at the differences between plants during the different seasons?

Here is today’s video for you to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFVOI9Duj8M&feature=emb_logo

After you have watched the video, I would like you to draw a tree which is in Spring, then Summer, then Autumn and finally, Winter. You will draw four trees in total, but each of them will look differently, because they change throughout the year.

Have a lovely day everybody,

Mrs Taylor

Have a Magical Wednesday Pioneers

Take a look at the words on the list.
Read them through together.
Find “sp” on your sound mat.
Read the words from the “tr” list and the “dr” list.
Write them all on postits and sort them into piles.

Enjoy.Watch the videos and spell the words using the three sounds we have focussed on this week.
Can you add “dr”, “tr” or “sp”?
Enjoy

Count in 2s

For a bit of a change, here is a link to a worksheet for you to try.

Happy Counting

Here is another maths problem for you Pioneers, digging deeper into you magical maths thinking.
Look for the pattern.
I wonder…?
Tel me how you know.
Can you check?
Show a grown-up and tell them

“If I have 5 on under this finger, what is under my thumb?”

The grown ups will never know that you used maths. They will think you are a Mathemagician.
That’s Maths Magic!

How are you peeling?
If you haven’t already done so,take a look at my reading of How are you Peeling?
This ties in with the story on Monday called Rain Before Rainbows.
The fruit and vegetables all have feelings but naming those feelings can be tricky.
We have used this book in the classroom and it is always fun.
You could get carried away and make your own Food with moods!
Enjoy.

Wednesday 10th June 2020

Good Morning Leaders

I have enjoyed reading all your things that come before each other. You have thought of some that I would not have. It’s fascinating how different people’s mind work and what appears on their lists.

We are going to be creative today, time to be brave and get those video skills used. It gets easier – honest!!

I can’t wait to see your forecasts. ? ☁️ ?

Rain Before Rainbows – English

Today, we are going to think about some of the other weather-related topics covered in the book.

I’d like you to listen to this piece of music – https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02b5b25 – and then make a list of all the things that you think the music is trying to portray.

You might want to listen more than once and list the things as you think they happen in the music. What techniques have the musicians used to make you think these things?

Money – Maths

If you think back to our online safety sessions with the PSCO you will remember that not everything that happens online is necessarily safe or within the law.

Today, you are going to help Liam and his family decide if they are being scammed.

https://natwest.mymoneysense.com/parents/8-12s/scam-busters/

Weather Forecasting.

After listening to ‘The Storn’, I’d like you to have a go at doing your own weather forecast to go alongside the piece of music.

You might want to make yourself a map and record yourself doing the forecast in front of it. Come on Leaders – be brave. ?

Tuesday News – 9th June

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all well.

This morning is bright, the sun is shining again after the rain just like in our story ‘Rain Before Rainbows’

Today’s suggested learning on Tapestry is as follows;-

In Maths, there is a fun Place Value activity to do.

In English, we will think about performance. Maybe you can perform a part of our story today!

In Phonics, there’s a fun game to play.

In Science, thinking about our story and the line ‘Night before daybreak’ also linked to last night’s story, let’s study the Moon a little closer.

Also see my short video on Tapestry of a paraglider, I spotted yesterday, on Whitby Cliff!

Enjoy the sunshine today and keep smiling 🙂

Best wishes,

Mrs Brown

Good Morning Adventurers – the sun is shining again!

Well, I think we managed to blow the rain clouds away and the sun has returned!

Did you enjoy our new book ‘Rain Before Rainbows’? It’s a beautiful book and it was lovely to hear some of your thoughts about it.

I feel all refreshed after a miserable weekend and ready to tackle some new learning, so here’s today’s activities if you wish to try them. (More details on Tapestry)

Handwriting – practise the letter ‘Mm’

English – using the text ‘Rain Before Rainbows’ think of words to describe rain and rainbows and display them on a mobile. You might try to put these words into some descriptive sentences.

Join me to read together ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ By Judith Kerr.

Maths – Key skills for Year 2 and Year 3 then draw a 2D shape street. Include lots of different 2D shapes to make houses, trees and roads. We will look again at right angles and parallel lines so you can highlight these on your street.

Music – make two different musical instruments, using materials from around the house, to accompany the music ‘Sea interlude 4 storm’ by Leonard Berstein Britten and ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ performed by The Royal Philarmonic Orchestra.

Science – Make your own rainbow.

I think you could have a very busy day!

But hope you have a lovely day.

Mrs Roe

Tuesday is the Best Day Ever Pioneers!

At dinner every evening we have a big question to discuss. Some of the other teachers have also asked their children some difficult questions about life, the universe and everything.

I thought that the Pioneers might give some great answers to some of life’s big questions.

I’d love to hear their answers.

So here is your first one…

“What is the best thing? ….Ever…? …Right now…?
so that is possibly three questions!

Here are a few suggestions for some simple percussion options. Open up your cupboard and dig out the lentils.
Brew up a storm in your own kitchen.
This may give you another opportunity to talk about classification of materials.
Use the sentence starters,”I wonder…” And “What happens if/when..?”

Here is a link to another wild piece of music:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQhpWsRhQGs&list=RDFQhpWsRhQGs&start_radio=1&t=2338
My best bit is at about 37 minutes. It’s reallly loud and storm then.

Happy drumming.

Fred,Ted and Tim like peaches.
They start with 12 peaches.
Time eats 2
Fred eats 3.
Ted eats 4.
How many peaches are left?
You can try this problem in many ways.
It can be done setting stuff out and talking it through.
You can write the number sentences.
You can start with the number of peaches left and work back:
There are 3 peaches left. How many did we start with?
Try this out with different starting numbers and distributions of stuff.
Draw pictures. Talk. Write.
Ask “I wonder…? ” and “What if…?”
Happy Maths

Here is your phonics suggestion today:
Take a look at the Phase 4 sheet from yesterday and have a go at the sounds together.
Revisit yesterday’s “tr” -read together.
Can your Pioneer recognise each word?
Talk
Listen
Read
Write
Copy
Spell
This is tricky.
Now have a look at “dr” and do the same.
Happy learning
